Do you do artificial nails, gel, acrylics, etc.?

Yes, our specialty is acrylics, we do perform acrylic, gels, nail wraps & more! We cannot assume responsibility for the work and/or products of other nail salons and nail technicians. If your service needs consist of nail enhancements and repairs, it is recommended that you have the old product removed.

What are Acrylic Nails?

Acrylic is a liquid & powder mixed applied with a brush that will harden (cure) without UV lamps in 2 minutes or less.

Does enhancements damage natural Nails?

If applied & maintained properly, nail enhancements should not negatively affect natural nails. However, the potential for damage exists. Clients wearing enhancements must be willing to care for their nails on a regular basis, normally every two weeks. If enhancements are not properly maintained, moisture could become trapped between the enhancement and natural nail, and a bacterial infection could result. Please note that wearing your nails at unreasonable lengths, using them as tools and doing nail repair yourself could cause damage to your nails. Regular maintenance is important when wearing enhancements, removal of enhancements must be done gently, some products can be removed by soaking in acetone, while others must be file off.

Do you use drills?

We use E-files, but if you prefer that we manually hand file your nails, we are skilled in this area as well.  We are focused on nail enhancements while maintaining healthy nails, however there are times where an e-file (known in the industry as drills) is necessary to give you that flawless finish, please note we never use e-files on natural nails.

What are Gel Nails?

Gels otherwise called UV Gels are types of Nail Enhancements that when exposed to a UV light source harden to cure. Like all artificial nail products, gel nails belong to the acrylic family of chemicals consisting of monomers (oligomers) which cure (harden) when exposed to UV light. Benefits to Gels include:
• Virtually odor-free
• Adhere well without acid primers
• no excessive filing
• durable, shiny finish which resists solvents

Do you offer gel polish?

Yes, we offer gel polish in combination with a basic manicure, we also offer gel polish as an add-on to any nail enhancement service. Please note gel polish manicures not performed by our salon requires removal and there is an additional cost to remove the gel services of any other establishment.

Are Gels better than Acrylics, which service would be best for me?

Nail Enhancements products share similar chemistry, they all belong to the family of acrylic chemicals. Nail Resins & adhesives (used in various nail wraps) contain cyanoacrylates, Acrylic (liquid & powder systems) contain methacylates, and UV Gels combine methacrylates & acrylates. They all cure differently, Resins & adhesives react to moisture, acrylics cure through a reaction known as polymerization where single molecules or monomers link together to form multiple molecule chains or polymers, curing of acrylic begins when an initiator molecule absorbs energy from heat or light. Acrylic systems utilize body heat to cure, while Gels require UV lights to cure. Strength and flexibility of nail enhancements depends on its molecular structure. Gel & Acrylic Systems contain cross linkers that form complex, three dimensional structures, they are stronger, more durable and more resistant to solvents such as water and acetone. When contemplating any type of nail enhancements, factors to consider include the health of your natural nails, your lifestyle, activities and resources. As stated, The service that would best suit your needs would depend on a number of factors, also consider allergic reactions to products, length, etc. To determine which service best suits your needs it is recommended to schedule a consultation appointment prior to servicing to determine what works best for your situation..

What are Diamond, Crystal, Porcelain & Solar Nails?

As a consumer, you are entitled to know about the products applied to your nails. Salons who falsely advertise any artificial nails as "better than acrylics" reveal how ignorant and gullible they expect consumers to be.
Falsely advertised services include:
• Gel - a layer of gel over liquid and powder acrylic. True gel nails consist entirely of acrylic oligomer gel (acrylates) cured with a UV light; there's no powder.
• Solar - a misleading name for any French-style (pink and white) nails, it also exploits a brand trademark.
• Crystal - a fancy name for clear tips covered with acrylic monomer liquid and clear polymer powder.
• Porcelain - clay heated to 1200°F cannot possibly be used for nails, yet this ridiculous name persists.
• Diamond Nails- applied by brushing a resin glue on to the nails and then dipping the nail in to diamond powder." The powder is not "diamond;" it's acrylic. Instead of acrylic liquid (ethyl methacrylate), this dip procedure uses an adhesive (cyanoacrylate) with acrylic powder (ethyl and methyl methacrylates).
Furthermore, you should be wary of any manicurist who claims that his/her acrylic product will not break. The FDA banned manicurists from using methyl methacrylate (MMA), a particular type of liquid monomer also known as dental acrylic, after numerous complaints of allergic reactions, nerve damage and permanent nail deformities. MMA has a very strong odor and the cured product is exceedingly hard and difficult to file, which is why many salons use drills/electric files. To protect consumers, Virginia's Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation Board of Barbering and Cosmetology (DPOR) prohibits false advertising, the misrepresentation of beauty services and the use of MMA. Consumers should report any negative experiences directly through its Consumer Complaint process.
